Location: Holiday Inn Toronto Downtown Centre
30 Carlton Street, Toronto, ON M5B 2E9

All organizations wish to benefit from ‘good governance’. This requires a Board of Directors which performs effectively to fulfill its job which includes the Board’s big 5 – strategy and organizational performance, talent management, risk governance, organizational integrity, and governance evolution. It also demands that the Board operates in a manner which sets the appropriate tone, culture, and accountability framework through its actions and behaviours.
Being on a Board is not a fellowship activity but a responsibility. There are expectations, demands, risks, and tough decisions to make. Each director must learn how to be an effective governor and conduct themselves in a manner where they are an effective contributor to the board team.
“Courageous governance” is seen as the human dynamic in the exercise of governance. Courageous governance requires taking action to deal with performance issues exhibited by individual Directors and the Board as a whole.
Courageous governance is needed when:
… a bold new vision or strategy is needed for the organization.
…a Director holds a lone position.
…recruiting new directors.
… individuals have not learned what governance is.
… developing respect for the governing level and the managing level.
… holding people accountable.
This is a half-day session and will provide learning through seminar, case study, and a panel discussion.
Facilitated by Fay Booker, FCPA-FCA, CIA, C.Dir., Acc.Dir., FCIS
Panel moderated by Korinne Collins
