2018 CSAE Trillium Award Winners
The recipients of CSAE Trillium’s 2018 Awards were announced on October 11th. These 6 individuals are all outstanding in their commitment to CSAE Trillium and we invite you to join us in celebrating their awards.
Chapter Service Excellence Award – Executive Member
Marion Tripp, Human Resources Professionals Association York Region Chapter
Marion is a shining example of someone who truly values her membership in CSAE. She truly appreciates the professional network and friendships she has nurtured over the years at Trillium. Right from the start, she knew the key to developing a network was by getting involved. There is hardly a committee that she hasn’t been on, and when she does volunteer, she can be counted on to follow through, every time. She welcomes new members, taking them under her wing and introducing them to the Trillium Family. Everyone knows when she is in the room – her bright, winning smile sparkles across the room. And, by the way, she is also the first to get the Karaoke party started and can always be found on the dance floor! Congratulations Marion.
Chapter Service Excellence Award – Business Member
Lisa Marie Upton, CMP, Niagara Falls Business Destination
Lisa Marie is committed and caring. Not just as an industry supplier, but as a person. Whether she is acting on behalf of her company or CSAE Trillium, she gives her whole heart to what she is doing. She is the epitome of leadership. She is your dream volunteer leader. A smile, positiveness, welcoming…perfect for the membership engagement sub-committee which she chairs. Her success in both her work and volunteer capacities speaks volumes both of her work ethic and tremendous heart. Not only is she a likeable and nice person, she also serves to make her world and ours a better place. She is a lifetime learner and acknowledges that volunteering allows her to learn something new. It raises awareness, inspires others and connects across all sectors. Congratulations Lisa Marie
Chapter Emerging Talent Award – Business Member
Troy Allan, Four Points by Sheraton Mississauga Meadowvale
As a newer member and volunteer, Troy has made a significant presence at CSAE Trillium. He has jumped (or danced) into volunteering with both feet since first volunteering on the 2017 Winter Summit. He was a new employee at the host venue and he worked tirelessly to ensure the event was all that it could be. He of course immediately volunteered for the 2017 Summer Summit – where he debuted his dance skills for the opening session. He approaches every task with a smile and high energy, and shows excellent leadership skills in his role as the Vice-Chair of the Young Professionals committee. He has a knack for making work tasks fun and fostering a team environment. Although not necessarily in this order, you can always find him playing hockey, voraciously reading, or talking extreme politics, all the while eating pizza! Congratulations Troy.
Chapter Emerging Talent Award – Executive Member
Sarah Lampson, CAE, Canadian Association of Research Administrators
Sarah began working in association management in 2013 and earned her CAE designation in 2017. She is an enthusiastic CSAE member, volunteer and ambassador who promotes CSAE membership to her peers. She has published on the CSAE blog 10 times, presented a webinar to CSAE members, contributed an article to the Association Magazine, mentored several CAE students and is scheduled to present at the 2018 CSAE conference.
Sarah loves to spend time with her children, friends and family, and walking her new dog.
Her organizational leadership at her association transformed them. She leads with empathy, integrity, inclusivity and confidence, drawing upon the lessons learned through both her accomplishments and disappointments. She is always willing to share with her peers across Canada and internationally and her generous spirit has helped many professionals and associations.
Presidents’ Award
Victoria Prince, Borden Ladner Gervais
Victoria is that perfect balance of intellect, knowledge, personality, humbleness and humour. She has been recognized as the recipient of the Women’s Executive Network (WXN) Canada’s Most Powerful Women Top 100 Award and more recently was selected by peers for inclusion in the 2018 edition of Best Lawyers in Canada® for Advertising & Marketing Law and Corporate Law, Charities/Non-Profit Law and Privacy and Data Security Law. Victoria is a regular presenter at Trillium PDX events and our Summits and she contributes her time to CSAE Trillium so that we can all be better Association Executives. Attendees love her sessions and it is quite common for her to stay behind answering numerous questions about not-for-profit law. She is consistently generous with her time and her expertise. Self-effacing and self-deprecating, Victoria is that member volunteer who you cannot help but like and respect. She is a difference maker for many of the people in this room and encourages us all to raise the bar professionally. Congratulations Victoria.
Circle of Distinction Award
Karen Dowhan, CMP, Tourism London
Karen’s 30 plus year career in the meetings and association management sector is unparalleled and has enabled her to enthusiastically and freely provide guidance, collaboration and leadership to many individuals in the association and meetings industry. For more than 20 years she has been an active volunteer with CSAE Trillium. Sitting on a minimum of two to three committees any given year, she is a hands-on and valued contributor to the association and to her fellow volunteers. She is a resource, a go to person and a mentor to both seasoned and up and coming association members. And what is she doing to have fun while not volunteering for Trillium?
You can find her in the kitchen mixing up a meal with fresh ingredients from her garden while singing Classic Rock tunes. But, back in the day, she was rockin’ it out as a good 5-pin bowler!
Congratulations Karen.
