Edmonton Tourism

EdmontonJan2020Edmonton is a vibrant urban centre in the heart of the wilderness, the largest northernmost metropolis, and a hotbed of cultural diversity. As one of Canada’s youngest, and fastest-growing major cities, Edmonton embraces new ideas and experimentation. A national hub for post-secondary education, medical health, arts and culture, Edmonton is an economic engine, fuelled by a spirit of creativity, entrepreneurialism and a commitment to working together to achieve great things.

The City of Edmonton has consistently been one of the nation’s fastest-growing municipal centres. Edmonton is home to top-ranked public-school systems, several outstanding post-secondary institutions and a diversified economy with leading-edge research and development in sectors like health and life sciences, ICT and digital technologies, energy and sustainability.

Edmonton continues to emerge as a tourism destination thanks to over 400 local festivals, including the world-renowned International Fringe Festival, which has contributed to the city’s reputation as ‘Festival City’. A university town, an arts and culture hub, a government town, an energy and service centre, technology and creativity centre and a service centre for the north are just some of the monikers that describe Edmonton. Edmonton provides a rare opportunity for a leader to work with a wide and diverse array of partners in a community that people are proud to call home.

You’ll find that Edmonton’s meeting venues aren’t just rooms; they’re incubators for great ideas and connections. The Edmonton Convention Centre, located in the heart of downtown Edmonton, overlooks the city’s beautiful and renowned North Saskatchewan River Valley. This world-class facility is undergoing a $10.8 million atrium modernization project that includes the replacement of the venue’s skylight unit with photovoltaic (solar cell) glass units. The new solar cells will convert sunlight into clean electricity while maintaining the transparency of the Centre’s current glass atrium. The solar cells are expected to generate upwards of 227,000-kilowatt hours of electricity each year – enough to power a typical football field floodlight for almost 11 years straight.

At the Edmonton EXPO Centre, only 10 minutes from the heart of downtown, you’ll find 522,000 square feet of endless possibilities. Boasting seven exhibit halls and a grand ballroom, the EXPO Centre is the largest convention centre in Western Canada. While the Edmonton EXPO Centre is BIG, they are determined to make their impact on the environment small and have committed to decreasing their carbon print, by utilizing methods to reduce, reuse and recycle and give back to the environment.
